Parliament will resume business in the plenary next week on Tuesday, 9th January 2018.
The Clerk to Parliament, Mrs Jane L. Kibirige, has communicated resumption of plenary to MPs, marking the end of the Christmas and New Year recess, which started on 20th December 2017 following the passing of the Constitution Amendment Act 2017, which among others lifted the upper age limit for presidential candidates. The President has since assented to the Act.
Parliament’s Director of Communication and Public Affairs, Chris Obore, confirmed the development, but added that the Order Paper will be decided upon by the Business Committee chaired by Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.
“The Clerk has communicated to MPs and staff that the House will resume on Tuesday 9th January 2018,” said Mr Obore.
Whereas the business to be handled remains unknown, the National Budget for the Financial Year 2018/2019 is expected to take center stage.
MPs are also expected to scrutinize the Biotechnology and Biosafety Bill that President Yoweri Museveni reverted to MPs for further consideration.
