President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni on Tuesday hosted She cranes, Pearls and the Uganda Cranes to a luncheon at their Rwakitura country home in Kiruhura district.

The national teams were led by Federation of Uganda Football Association [FUFA] bosses Moses Magogo and Edgar Watson.

The duo introduced new Cranes coach Sebastiane Desabre to the first family.

Speaking at the luncheon, Museveni said all Cranes team members were born after the NRM took over power and lauded them for being fit, healthy and talented.

“Our teams need stamina,” he pointed out, advising players to be focused and don’t get tired from running around.

“This idea of stamina and skill is important, the tactics come later,” he explained.

He asked FUFA bosses whether there are budgets for Cranes something the technocrats in the ministry of Education too don’t seem to know.

The Minister herself [Janet] was not aware of any budgets to which the president inquired: “why the confusion? Why not tell the minister what the problem is?”

The president further asked FUFA officials where they put gate collections from matches and was told the money has already been submitted to the football council.

There was awkwardness when none of the officials gave a straight answer prompting Museveni to direct his wife to be involved.

He tasked officials to explain why they have marginalised Minister Janet on Cranes. “I’m going to get angry over these ad hoc arrangements”.

Museveni then promised that government would handle Shs1bn compensation to accident victims and pledged a new bus for the national team-The Cranes.
