Museveni delivers ‘must-watch, compulsory’ New Year’s message

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is this evening delivering the New Year Address on all major TV, radio stations and online platforms.

State House confirmed in a message that Museveni would deliver his message on Sunday December 31, starting at 7pm.

Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) directed all radio and television stations in Uganda to broadcast Museveni’s New Year’s message.

While President Museveni has been delivering New Year messages since he came to power in 1986, it has not been mandatory for private media houses to broadcast his message live.

But UCC executive director Godfrey Mutabazi said all broadcasters will be required to allocate President Museveni two hours to deliver his message.

Mwambutsya Ndebesa, a lecturer at Makerere University, has since described the directive as a move by the government and President Museveni to do what he calls damage control.
