The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has asked Makindye West MP Allan Sewanyana to leave parliament chambers over inappropriate dressing.
The legislator came in dressed in an Overall which the speaker says is not the appropriate dress code of a legislator.
The Speaker started plenary by reminding Members of the Rules on decorum during debate in the House.
She emphasised that the behaviour of MPs should not bring the House into disrepute.
She then directed all MPs wearing hats or caps to remove them as they are not part of the dress code.
Government Chief Whip, Ruth Nankabirwa, raised a point of order pointing at Ssewanyana’s red overall.
“Is Hon. Sewanyana who has walked in wearing an overall like he is at a construction site in order? Is he in order especially when his attire is not what is prescribed,” she queried.
Kadaga replied: “He is not dressed properly; he should vacate the House.”
The legislator later returned to the house dressed in an appropriate suit.
Earlier, the Speaker ordered all other security organs deployment at parliament to vacate the premises immediately.
Kadaga then asked the sergeant at arms seal off the link between the President’s office and Parliament so no one accesses the house from there.
She ordered that all Police officers at Parliament wear name tags and a list of their names be submitted to the office of the Speaker.
She further ordered that all Members of Parliament wearing hats must remove them immediately since they are not part of the Parliament’s dress code.
