Gashumba upset as his case is pushed to January

Gashumba and his co-accused in court

Social commentator Frank Gashumba has expressed frustration at the way the state continues to play games over his case which he claims was made up.

On Monday, Buganda Road court pushed to January 16, 2018, a fraud case against Gashumba, his brother Innocent Kasumba and Ismail Kiyingi.

Senior Principal Magistrate Charles Yeteise adjourned the case on behalf of the trial Chief Magistrate James Ereemye Mawanda who was attending the judicial officers’ extraordinary meeting at the High Court in Kampala.

Dennis Nyombi, Gashumba’s lawyer, said owing to the fact that the magistrates were attending the judicial meeting, the case will now be heard in January next year.

Gashumba and his brother Kasumba are accused of conspiring with one Ismail Kiyingi to  falsely represent themselves as officials from the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs in order to obtain money from two Dutch nationals under the guise of offering them contracts to supply trucks, troop carriers, water tanks, and other equipment to the Ministry of Defence.

They are facing charges of impersonation, forgery and being in possession of narcotics.

Speaking after the court session, Gashumba said the case will never kick off because “those were trumped up charges”.

“But as a law abiding citizen, I will continue reporting to court,” he said.
