Uganda Police Professional Standards Unit (PSU) will investigate its own officer who is accused of deflating car tyres belonging to former Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye.

The incident happened in Gulu town last week where police dispersed a rally at Kaunda grounds organised by FDC presidential candidate, Patrick Amuriat Oboi, had a rally.

It was also attended by FDC secretary for mobilisation Ingrid Turinamwe, Gulu Woman MP Betty Aol and Kawempe Mayor Mubarak Munyagwa.

An officer of the Police Field Force Unit [FFU] only identified as ASP Yesamu led armed riot police officers who blocked Besigye’s car with a police firefighting truck and police patrol pickup.

According to Besigye, ASP Yesamu did everything to stop the rally including “deflating our tyres!”

Asked whether the office would be punished, police spokesperson, Asan Kasingye, told that “PSU will be handling this in due course”.
