A positive vibration may be going through various parts of Kampala Metropolitan Policing Area as operations aimed at cleaning up the city before Christmas Festive Season clocks in commence.

The Police in Old Kampala Division have confiscated a number of Shisha pots, smoking pipes, knives, marijuana, mind enhancing herbs (mairunji) heroine together with the syringes used and artificial sex toys from a major dark spot around Kasaato during an operation that was aimed at enforcing the Tobacco Control Act.

What puzzled the personnel during the operation was the question of the syringes. These syringes are used on various clients which increases at the risk of contracting HIV. This is a more reason for the need to clean up the city.

The operation was led by the Officer in Charge of Operations at Old Kampala Police Station, Cadet ASP. Senono Ismail, Divisional Crime Preventers together with a team from Uganda National Health Consumer’s Organisation.

“We are up to the task of enforcing some of the laws that impact positively to our country’s development, one of them is the Tobacco Control Act and we shall not rest until our people in Old Kampala Division feel our security presence,” C/ASP Senono Ismail said.

It’s believed that these drugs pose a health risk to consumers and causes tobacco related illnesses.

According to the law, any person who contravenes the Tobacco Control Act is liable to imprisonment of a term not less than a year or a fine of Shs420, 000 or both.

The massive crackdown on criminals comes after the recent launch of Operation “Nyoosha Njia” by the Commander Kampala Metropolitan CP. Mwesigwa Frank aimed at sweeping the city clean off crime.

This comes as the 2nd division after Central Police Station Kampala to implement the operation throughout the 18 divisions.
