City businessman Frank Gashumba has said he will not flee the country although he is being persecuted for being of Rwandan ancestry.

The activist has since threatened to drag government to courts of law for imprisoning him on tramped up charges of impersonation, possession of drugs, forgery and conspiracy to commit a felony.

In a video posted on his social media Facebook page, Gashumba claims he had gone to Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence [CMI] to secure the release of his brother, Innocent Gashumba.

He was instead arrested and moved to Kireka based Special Investigations Division [SID] which he calls an extension of CMI and JATT.

He says Kampala businessmen are using the facility to torture people they have grudges against.

In the morning, over 10 CMI operatives carrying American guns reportedly used in the killing of former police spokesperson, AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi, picked him.

They drove him to Kabalagala police station and later connected to his home in Bunga.

“They took positions in my compound as if they had gone to arrest Osama Bin Laden or a dangerous warlord,” he narrated.

Usama ibn Mohammed ibn Awad ibn Ladin, often anglicised as Osama bin Laden was the founder of al-Qaeda, the organisation that was responsible for the September 11 attacks on the United States.

Gashumba said the display at his home was very threatening. The soldiers searched his house and took what they wanted. They then took him to his office and searched it too.

He said the evidence of narcotics and fake documents that CMI claims to have found at his home were made up. “They did not find anything that they wanted.”

“I didn’t know that being a munyarwanda is a crime now. Some of the questions they asked me were related to my tribe.”

He said the state-run New vision and sister Bukedde paper said “Frank Gashumba of Rwandan origin”. “This is stupid. My parents migrated from Rwanda many years ago. I was born in Uganda.”

He added: “Someone to torture me because of my tribute, we are not going to accept that. I’m not going into exile. I will stay in my country.”

Gashumba said the men who re-arrested one of Kaweesi suspects after being released by court are the same people that arrested him.

“I know that van. I know the people who arrested him. The commandant is called Godfrey. You know my name, you can come to my home and kill me. You threatened that if I speak what I saw you will re-arrest me.”

Gashumba claims only two tribes brought President Museveni to power–Banyarwanda and Baganda of Luweero.
