Security operatives searched the home of city socialite, Frank Gashumba, who was arrested Monday over an alleged bogus passports deal.
He was detained in Mbuya at the headquarters of Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI). He is accused of impersonation and obtaining money by false pretence.
His brother Innocent Gashumba has also been arrested. Police and CMI operatives raided his Bunga home in Makindye division Tuesday morning and searched it.
His office located in Industrial Area was also sealed off and put under surveillance by Jinja Road Police Station Police officers.
Gashumba, a social commentator and businessman is also mired in a wider network of individuals who are spying for the government of Rwanda.
Gashumba runs a civil organisation known as Sisimuka Uganda where he sensitises Ugandans about government excesses and failures.
Recently, Uganda Communication Commission banned radio TV stations from hosting him. He was also warned over a picture on social media where he was seen wearing an army uniform.
In February 2011, he was convicted for conspiracy to defraud DFCU bank and later arrested for trying to defraud EYG Group a Turkish company dealing in fire tenders of $28m (Shs79.9billion) on pretext that they wanted to buy fire trucks on behalf of the government of Uganda.
In April 2008, he was arraigned before Buganda Road Court and charged with obtaining money by false pretence from a one Abdul Ssali totalling to Shs800,000.
