Kira Municipality MP Ssemujju Nganda on Tuesday sparked off insults when he called Hon. Jackson Karugaba Kafuuzi, the M.P for Kyaka South Constituency in Kyegegwa District, a wife to Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi.

This was during the Legal & Parliamentary Affairs Committee meeting on the Constitution Amendment Bill, 2017, aimed at scrapping presidential age limit.

Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi and seconders of his bill had also appeared before the Committee which wants Magyezi, who in September moved the motion seeking leave of the House to draft the Private Members’ Bill, to justify it.

Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister, Kahinda Otafiire, on the other hand, is expected to state the government’s position on the Bill.

Drama and insults then dominated the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs committee first hearing of the bill.

The Chair Jacob Oboth clashed with Nganda over claims that he [Oboth] sneaked into State House to make a deal with the president on the bill.

Oboth further clashed with Busiro East MP Medard Segona for coming late but the real deal was between Nganda and Kafuuzi.

Kafuuzi had tried to interrupt Nganda who was question the chair. “Are you even a member of the committee?” Nganda quizzed Kafuuzi.

“I have my rights, I have rights,” Kafuuzi protested. Oboth shouted “order, order!” as he called in the sergeant-at-arms.

“Whether Magyezi appears with his wife, I don’t care Hon Kafuuzi,” Nganda said. Kafuuzi cried to the chair demanding that Nganda respects him and not call him Magyezi’s wife.

“We are colleagues, I don’t want to be called Magyezi’s wife. You must respect me, I’m your colleague. If you are used to bullying people, I won’t take that.”

“May be you also don’t know me,” Nganda fired back as the chair tried to calm down the tensions.
