Kampala High Court has ordered government to pay 22 suspects arrested for the murder of former police spokesperson AIGP Felix Kaweesi Shs 80m each.

The suspects’ lawyer Ladislaus Rwakafuzi filed an application in court demanding that government makes a medical examination to verify the cause of injuries they had.

Justice Margret Oguli ruled on Thursday that the said suspects were badly tortured while in custody and their rights violated.

The judge reminded government that suspects are still suspects until proven guilty and should thus be treated well without torturing them.

The prisons further refused to give proper medication to the tortured suspects who were arrested from their homes and unlawfully detained in Nalufenya Police Station in Jinja District.

Kaweesi, his bodyguard and driver were killed on March 17 this year in Kulambiro.
