Nankabirwa booed in Rubanda, says only God can stop age limit

Government Chief Whip Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa

The government Chief Whip Ms Ruth Nankabirwa says only God cannot put a stop to the lifting of the presidential age limit clause from the constitution.

Nankabirwa was speaking at the burial ceremony of the Deputy chairman for the National Planning Authority, Dr Abel Rwendeire at Kibuzigye in Bubaare Sub county, Rubanda District, on Sunday.

She said the likes of Kabale priest Fr Gaetano Batanyenda that are opposed to the lifting of the presidential age limit are wasting their time.

“Only God that has the age limit of everybody. Leave the issue of age limit to God because he is the one who knows programme of every person he created.”

The NRM official instead rallied Ugandans to support the lifting of the presidential age limit since Igara West Raphael Magyezi has already tabled the bill.

Angry mourners raised in a tumult and shouted back at her: “K’ogikwatako (don’t dare touch it)”. Drowned in the murmurings and boos of the crowd, Nankabirwa had to cut short her speech.

She then left the stage for Prime minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda who was the chief mourner.

Nankabirwa joins the list of NRM MPs who have been booed, chased away from events or threatened to be lynched for supporting the age limit bill.

They include minister Godfrey Kiwanda, Elioda Tumwesigye, Judith Nabakooba, James Kakooza, Prossy Akampurira and Margaret Mbeiza, among others.
