Bedbound Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze has satirically extended her congratulations to the speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga for nearly getting them killed by Special Forces Command [SFC] soldiers.
“I want to thank all people who are standing with us as we fight for constitutionalism in our country,” Nambooze spoke for her sickbed at Bugolobi Medical Centre.
She thanked her colleagues including the Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Winnie Kizza, MPs and friends who don’t tire to check on her whenever she takes ill due to persecution.
“It’s unfortunate that this has become the story of my life; stand for truth and justice, be targeted by the state security apparatus, get tortured and end up in hospital and always walk around with a battered and sick body.”
“…my children and husband’s tears and worries written on their faces at times makes me consider giving up….Yet at the end of it all my spirit remain unshaken despite the physical and psychological pain inflicted on me and for this I praise the Lord who gives me courage.”
She went on: “As I lay down here in pain, I bask in pride that I together with other colleagues stood in defence of our country amidst such danger.”
Nambooze said she was happy also that Madam Speaker has presided over a sitting of Parliament which has conferred upon her an honour for doing quite an outstanding act that saw the near killing of her MPs and the desecration of the once upon august house.
“I congratulate you Rt. Hon. Speaker Kadaga. God is our Shepherd and I assure you Ugandans that we shall be out of hospital soon and until God calls us to sleep, we will never tie to stand and challenge dictatorship.”
Nambooze was arrested and at Kireka the Violent Crime Crack Unit [VCCU].
“I have severe back pain after what I have gone through. Don’t cry for me, cry for your country.”
Mityana MP Francis Zaake was also brutalised and is now admitted at Lubaga hospital in Kampala.
Kampala Capital City Authority [KCCA] Councillor Segirinya Muhammad was also brutalised during the age limit demonstrations and is hospitalised in Wampeewo.
