Lukwago files complaint over crushed balls, Ingrid fears cop infected her

Ingrid being led away after arrest

Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago on Monday went to the Uganda Human Rights Commission – UHRC to file a complaint against Uganda police.

Lukwago was last week brutally manhandled by police outside his home in Wakaliga, leaving a damage on his testicles.

“What pains me most is that I have been dehumanized, I have been a subject of ridicule,” he told press on Monday.

He added: “It pains me, it has gone deep into my heart. I was charged with unlawfully assembly outside my home and I was not given an opportunity to seek medical attention.”

Earlier, Lukwago promised to drag police to courts of law if they do not apologise to him for crushing his balls. Lukwago was escorted by Kampala leaders.

Meanwhile, Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] secretary for mobilisation, Ingrid Turinawe is also up in arms against police for manhandling her during the Mini Price supermarket arrest in down town Kampala.

She said a police officer slapped her while another kicked her during the arrest.

“Who are these people? They smashed my car glasses, kicked me, handcuffed me,” she said.

“This kifesi pulled the hand cuffs from his pocket, fixed on his hand first, then joined on mine. His hand was bleeding after glasses cut him while he smashed the car.”

Policeman manhandles Ingrid

The suggestion got fans even alleging if the cop was HIV positive, he could infect the activist.

In 2014, government apologised to Ingrid, then leader of FDC Women’s league for manhandling, squeezing of her breast and vandalism of her car by police officers.

Ingrid had sued the police and government (defendants) for allegedly squeezing her breast while she went to attend a political rally in Nansana, Wakiso district last year.

She wanted Shs560 million as compensation for damages to atone for this embarrassment that happened on 20th, April 2012, as she was driving to Nansana town council to attend a political rally.

Former presidential candidate, Kizza Besigye, says the renewed harassment of Ingrid and Lukwago must stop.

“Can Uganda Police be cleaned when it’s run by unidentifiable goons, eg those brutally arresting Lord Mayor and Ingrid?” Besigye tweeted.
