Entebbe Chief Magistrate’s Court has charged and remanded nine suspects arrested by police in the recent wave of women killings in the municipality.
The suspects on Friday appeared before Magistrate Mary Kaitesi who charged them with murder.
They are; Ivan Katongole [who has been detained at Nalufenya police facility], Hellen Nabaggala and Andrew Kizito who were charged with the murder of Rose Nakimuli in Katabi town council.
Godfrey Mayanja, John Bwanika, Jonathan Kibirango, Richard Kasozi, Muhammad Sangayo and Yiga Balijerwa were charged with the murder of Sarah Nakajjo in Nkumba Bufulu.
Kaitesi remanded the suspects to Kigo government prison until September 25 for further mention of their case.
Opondo’s driver too in prison
Meanwhile, George Sempa, government spokesperson, Ofwono Opondo’s driver, is also being held on allegations of killing women in Nansana municipality.
He was arrested by police flying squad after intercepting his phone calls with other suspects.
Appearing on TV recently, Opondo complained that his driver had been detained for over 25 hours without being taken to court.
Sempa was later charged at Nabweru Chief Magistrates Court with 11 counts; eight for murder, two aggravated robberies and one for terrorism.
Chief Magistrate Jameson Karemani charged Sempa with the murder of eight women and theft of the victims’ property.
The other suspects are; Robert Mugerwa, Tamale Isma, Steven Ssempijja, Mahad Kakumba, Sam Mayambala, Phillip Tumuhimbise, Tina Nantongo, David Wasswa, Bosco Waligo and Ismael Ssegawa.
They are accused of murdering Patricia Nansubuga, Maria Birungi, Teddy Nakachwa, Juliet Nampijja, Josephine Nakazibwe, among other women.
