Government-sponsored students at Kabale University on Wednesday stormed the office of the Vice Chancellor demanding an explanation as to why their allowances have delayed.

Over 30 students accuse the administration of delaying payment of their allowances ever since they reported for the semester on August 12,2017.

Each government-sponsored student is entitled to Shs840,000 each academic year.

“We submitted our bank accounts but we have not received any payment since. We need to buy meals and pay rent,” one of the students said.

According to the students who preferred anonymity, the university charges them Shs1000 as development fees yet government pays it on their behalf.

Carrying placards, the students raided the office of the deputy vice-chancellor in charge of academics, Prof. Ezra Mishambi Twesigomwe, who just fled and eluded them.

But Judith Akatukunda, the Kabale University public relations officer, promised the students will get their money as soon as its ready.
