Four people died and several others were injured in parallel accidents that happened during Eid Adhuha celebrations at the close of last week.
Addressing a weekly press conference at Police Headquarters in Naguru on Monday, police spokesperson, Asan Kasingye, said the first fatal accident happened on 01/09/2017 in Mbarara town, which claimed the life of Sheik Ahmed Kwikiriza, aged 50 years.
This incident occurred at around 07:30 am in Mbarara Municipality opposite the Independence Park.
The Sheikh was going for Eid Adhuha prayers when he swerved off the road and hit an electric pole.
The sheikh was seriously injured and rushed to Mbarara Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Other occupants sustained minor injuries. “We send our condolences to the family and the entire Muslim community upon the death of the district Khadi, especially at a time of celebration,” Kasingye said.
He said police also recorded other fatal accidents including one on 01.09.2017 at around 08:20 hours at Naluvule Trading Center along Kampala-Gulu highway in Luwero district.
A motor vehicle Reg No. UAM 512P Super Custom White with five passengers on board rammed into a stationary vehicle.
A female adult identified as Aisha Kadala, 23, a resident of Bombo sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Luwero Health Center IV hospital for treatment.
Unfortunately, she died on the way. Other passengers sustained minor injuries.
On 03.09.2017 at around 04: 00 hours at Stella Junction along Kampala- Entebbe highway in Kampala district, an unidentified male pedestrian while crossing the road, was knocked dead by an unidentified motor vehicle heading towards Entebbe.
On 31.08.2017 at around 00: 10 hours at a place commonly called “Welcome” in Kayiriti Village Mukungwe Sub County along Kampala-Mbarara highway Masaka district, a motor vehicle UAX 925U Fuso Lorry white in colour knocked a motor cycle UED 752M Bajaj.
The rider identified as Bakyesenga Vicent, 25, a resident of Kasana Zone Nyendo Division died on the spot.
“Our traffic team visited the scene and the body was taken to Masaka Referral Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem.”
