Uganda Cranes started off their first leg against the Egypt national football team, the Pharaohs with a 1-0 lead at Namboole stadium in the capital Kampala.

2016 CAF footballer of the year (based in Africa), Dennis Onyango, captained the national team that glimpsed an early victory on Thursday.

Uganda’s sole goal was scored by Emmanuel Okwi in the 51st minute.

Egypt’s attempt to equalise was futile as one of its scorers was brushed off as an offside.

The Cranes will now resume training ahead of a second leg in Alexandria in a bid to qualifier for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
