Minister of Ethics and Integrity Simon Lokodo says he has operationalised the Pornography Control Committee to monitor and sensitise people about the dangers of pornography after government approved the funds.

Mid last year, Parliament approved a Shs2.6bn budget to institute a Pornography Control Committee and purchase a machine to detect pornographic content in the country.

“The Pornography Control Committee ensure that the perpetrators of pornography are apprehended and prosecuted,” Lokodo told press in Kampala on Monday during the inauguration of the pornography control committee.

He said the pornography detection machine that cost Shs300m will arrive in the country very soon.

“It will promote rehabilitation of individuals, families, communities etc affected by pornography,” Lokodo said, adding, “It will sensitise the people about the dangers of pornography.”

According to him, the machine will ensure that the perpetrators of pornography are apprehended and prosecuted.

Lokodo further said the Pornography Control Commission will collect and destroy pornographic objects/material with assistance of police.

The government named a seven-person pornography control team as provided for by Anti-Pornography.

The PCC is provided for by the Anti-pornography Act, 2014. The committee consists of nine members in all including a Chairperson, a distinguished practicing advocate, nominated by the Uganda Law Society.

The PCC shall take all necessary measures to ensure detection and prohibition of pornography.

“Today, I’m excited to inform you that the long awaited day has finally come. The PCC has been operationalised.”

A couple of weeks back, he informed the public that Government had approved funds to make the Pornography Control Committee.
