Kayihura denies paying prostitutes as spies

IGP Gen Kale Kayihura addresses residents of Nansana

The Inspector General of Police, Kale Kayihura, has dismissed as untrue reports that he is hiring prostitutes and boda boda motorcyclists to boost his spy network.

In a statement issued by Police spokesperson, Asan Kasingye, the police chief said he has never paid sex workers to spy on criminals in Nansana Wakiso district as alleged.

According to the reports, Kayihura paid Shs200,000 to each prostitute and boda boda rider after meeting with them last Saturday on the rampant killings of women that rocked the district.

Kasingye says Kayihura only advised groups of youths, women and children to be more proactive in preventing these murders.

He said the purpose of the meetings is to mitigate the risks especially sex workers and also businesswomen and girls who leave early in the morning and come back late from work.

Kasingye noted that Kayihura only called for vigilance and police visibility as a measure of rebuilding physical security under “Mayumba Kumi”.

He suggested lookout teams that would coordinate with police patrols.
