Loose-tongued presidential advisor on media matters, Tamale Mirundi, says of all opposition leaders in the country, he respects Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu the most.

“Muntu is one person I respect,” Mirundi said Tuesday while appearing on NBS TV “morning breeze” programme.

This came a day after Muntu was nominated to retain his seat as Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] party president.

Although Muntu is critical of the government and his boss President Yoweri Museveni, Mirundi says at least he is the only opposition leader that deserves admiration.

“I have never received information that he goes to State House in the night,” Mirundi said in high praise, adding, “I believe in what he says, he is a respected man.”

Mirundi recalled that even while Muntu served as the army commander, he was never criticised by anyone over his decisions and actions.

“Have you ever seen him criticise the army he commanded?” Mirundi queried, noting that although Muntu resigned his commission, he still respects Uganda People’s Defence Forces [UPDF].

Calls Besigye, Raila societal rejects

Mirundi then lashed at former FDC president, Kizza Besigye, who he accused of creating trouble after losing elections.

He compared the opposition strongman to former Kenyan Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, who just lost elections against incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Raila Odinga is one with his man Besigye. Raila is a reject, he has been rejected 5 times,” Mirundi said, reiterating that Besigye too has lost four times against Museveni.

“What Raila needs to do is join a government of national unity. Kenyan politics isn’t like Uganda’s.”

According to Mirundi, the cost of removing Uhuru Kenyatta means opposition equally has to have “a rich Kenyatta”. “Any sensible government would cripple the financial source of its opposition.”

He denounced Raila’s call on Kenyans to stay away from work comparing it with Besigye’s defiance campaign which affects citizens more than the politicians themselves.

Mirundi said as Besigye creates trouble, his businesses continue operating uninterruptedly.
