NRM party has lost its way, says Muntu

Candidate Mugisha Muntu was Monday nominated for Forum for Democratic (FDC) party presidency at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi along Entebbe road.

Speaking after the nomination, Muntu who seeks another five years in office, said he is ready for the next chapter of the great party and a continuation of leadership that is focused on providing real, transformational alternatives to the people.

“Together, we can bring to an end the impunity, mismanagement and corruption our country faces at the hands of an NRM party that has lost its way,” he said.

He added: “Together, we can make Uganda prosperous and bountiful, not just for a select few, but for everyone that calls this great land their home.”

Muntu said from Kisoro to Koboko, through Kampala, Kalapata to Kakoma, Ugandans will rise as one country and one people.

“And we once again commit to building our nation and restoring our people’s dignity. One step at a time, one term after another.”

At his nomination event, Muntu was seconded by Soroti Woman MP Angelina Osege, the party Chairman Wasswa Birigwa, the Leader of Opposition in Parliament (LOP) Winnie Kiiza, the opposition chief whip Ibrahim Semujju Nganda, the deputy spokesperson Paul Mwiru and the National Youth Leader, Idi Ouma.

Muntu who is seeking another term of office will be tussling with five other contenders.

They include Byamugisha Moses, Moses Bakubira, Dan Malcom Matsiko, Kawempe South MP Mubarak Munyagwa and former MP Patrick Amuriat Oboi.

Four of these will be nominated today, while two other contenders (Mubarak Munyagwa and Amuriat Oboi) are scheduled for nomination Tuesday.

The process, led by FDC Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dan Mugarura, started with the nomination of Dan Malcom Matsiko, one of the contenders, who is driving his campaign on a promise to fundraise and build a strong party.

Matsiko says FDC cannot depose the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party without a strong treasury.

The campaigns will run for 90 days.
