President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Thursday made a stopover to speak to artisans along Jinja road.
The President made stop overs at Banda, Kireka, and Bweyogerere.
Speaking to the gatherings, President Museveni said that he has personally come forward to help the people involved in various artisan trades that need help.
He assured them that the NRM Government is committed to facilitating them in the struggle to build workshops and showrooms.
He said this will go a long way in enabling the country to get liberated from the slavery of importing goods that can be made domestically.
He praised them for getting involved in income generating ventures
The president was also gifted with a bunch of Matooke at Banda – Munkere market.
“I drove from Namanve in Mukono District to Nakawa in Kampala to assess the work of artisan groups that dot the Kampala-Jinja highway and what support to offer them,” the president later said on his social media page.
He said the support that will be offered under the Presidential Initiative to Skill the Youth looks at empowering them so that they improve their skills and products.
State House Comptroller, who oversees this project, will meet the groups, assess their needs and ensure they are supported.
“I will return to review progress made.”
