Former Uganda Cranes head Coach, Mr Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic, has dismissed as untrue a claim by Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) President, Eng. Moses Magogo, that they offered him a double salary which he rejected.

“We offered to double Micho’s salary but he rejected the offer. The federation had nothing more to do,” Magogo told journalists at FUFA House in Mengo on Monday.

Magogo said the federation made the effort to retain the Serbian coach by doubling his salary as well as paying his salary arrears.

“What the federation owed Micho ($54,000) was so little compared to the $600,000 already paid to him since 2013,” Magogo argued.

In a tweet, Micho started by castigating those spreading rumours about him already signing a deal saying they are wrong.

“I still didn’t sign anything but ready to fly tonight [last night] to new destination to sign,” he said.

He then lashed at the FUFA boss for misleading the country regarding his double salary offer.

“[I] Never rejected double salary offer but would be the biggest moron on this planet if I accepted a promise of double yet even single was never paid,” Micho said.

Magogo said FUFA essentially owes Micho $4,000 in salary arrears while the $50,000 is bonus for Afcon qualification.

“Micho simply got a better offer because compared to other coaches on the continent, his salary was low.”

“After AFCON 2017, we sat down with the coach and agreed on the payment plan. We cleared the $50,000 qualification bonus. The arrears are cumulative and we had a plan to pay because even in June 2017, we paid the coach $20,000. As a federation, we have never faulted on the payment plan agreed upon. We also pledge to clear the outstanding arrears for the coach,” Eng Magogo added.

Magogo then announced the appointment of Moses Basena and Fred Kajoba as interim coaches for the national team, the Uganda Cranes.

Accompanied by the FUFA Finance Director Decolas Kiiza, Communications manager Ahmed Hussein and national teams’ manager Patrick Ntege Kaweesa, Eng. Magogo saluted the service from coach Micho.

In the address which was also live on the football radio, 102.1 FUFA f.m, Eng Magogo outlined to the media the history of coach Micho’s recruitment process, remuneration procedure, challenges and current situation.

“We convened as a family including immediate former players and made a decision to hand the national team to Moses Basena and Fred Kajoba as interim coaches until the CHAN 2018 and FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifiers against Rwanda and Egypt respectively. We shall give them (Basena and Kajoba) all the necessary support,” Eng. Magogo remarked.

Eng. Magogo appreciated the timely support from the sponsors, partners and the Government of Uganda every time the national team and FUFA has required the services.

He also hinted on the constructive procedure currently being undertaken by FUFA with Government towards the facilitation of the national team just like it is done elsewhere on the African continent.

“As the federation, we have engaged the Government and the discussions for funding of the national team are positive and promising,” Eng. Magogo noted.

Basena and Kajoba will resume official duties starting with the 2018 TOTAL CHAN qualifiers against Rwanda.
