A Uganda People’s Defence Force [UPDF] senior officer collapsed on Monday and died after visiting a sauna.
Major Alex Tinkamanyire had visited a leisure and fitness centre in Mutungo, a Kampala suburbs before his death.
He was rushed to Nakasero Hospital where he died shortly due to heart complications.
UPDF Chief of Defence Forces [CDF], Maj. Gen. David Muhoozi, told mourners on Wednesday at the Church of Resurrection in Bugolobi that the deceased was a dedicated military officer.
“He lived an exemplary life and was diligent in his duties,” Muhoozi said.
Muhoozi first worked with Maj Tinka a commander in Kisangani Congo.
“He was one of our commanders entrusted with a platoon.”
At the time of his death, Muhoozi revealed, Maj Tinka was edging towards another promotion.
Tinka is survived by Maureen and three children.
He will be laid to rest today, Thursday in Katukuru, Mbarara district.
Major Tinka’s death comes only days after Lt. Col Richard Muhangi died from gunshot wounds he sustained from a standoff with armed dealers in Ntoroko district.
