Court grants MP Kahonda Shs100m bail

Ruhinda county MP, Donozio Kahonda, also a bitter rival of Justice and Constitutional Affairs minister, Kahinda Otafiire, has been granted bail.

Jinja High Court Judge, Eva Luswata, granted Kahonda a Shs100m non-cash bail on Thursday.

The legislator was asked to leave behind his passport. He will be appearing before court on the 30th of every month.

Jinja chief magistrate Francis Kaggwa convicting Kahonda of forgery and uttering false documents in June and sentenced him to nine months in Kirinya prison.

State alleges that Kahonda used a Uganda Certificate of Education [UAC] pretending to be Mutabazi Levan Dickson which was not true.


He also allegedly forged a medical report on UPDF entry form at UPDF Military Academy in Jinja in the name of the said Mutabazi Levan Dickson.

At the close of last week, Kahonda was produced before the Luweero Chief Magistrate, Charles Sserubuga, and charged with two fresh counts of forgery and uttering false documents.

Prosecution alleges that Kahonda forged an Ordinary level (O-level) and Advanced Level (A-level) Certificate of Education which were presented to Ndejje University for admission.

After his release on bail today, Kahonda was quickly re-arrested and locked up.

He has been returned to Kirinya prison up to August 1, when new charges are expected to be preferred against him.
