The Late Paul Karakure Tumukunde

Guards protecting James Kabuganda, who is said to be related to the First Family, shot and killed the son of a Local Council 3 chairperson in Sembabule district.

The guards who were driving a land cruiser shot dead the son of Fred Karakure, the LC3 chairperson Lugusulu sub county, only identified as Karakule Paul Tumukunde.

They reportedly later handed themselves to police with the murder weapon.

The incident is reported to have taken place on Thursday at 6:30pm in Sembabule town council.

Tumukunde with a friend identified as Tugume Jackson Ninsiima

Earlier reports suggested that the guards were attached Special Forces Command [SFC] the elite UPDF unit that protects key persons in government.

SFC spokesman, Maj Chris Magezi, denied the claim saying the shooter was not a member of the elite unit disguised in police uniform as alleged.

“The suspect, a VVIP police officer, is in police custody in Sembabule police,” Magezi told

“Please contact the police for an update on that matter,” he added.

SP Lameck Kigozi, the Masaka Region Police spokesperson, identified the suspect as PC Canan Nkamuhabwa.

He said Nkamuhabwa shot Tumukunde in the chest following a bar brawl.

According to Kigozi, Nkamuhabwa, the counter terrorism officer, is attached to Museveni’s aunt commonly known as Senga wa Museveni’s security detail.

Museveni attending Kabuganda’s wedding

In May 2017, President Yoweri Museveni performed the ceremony of opening Kairatsya Full Gospel Church in Rugushuuru Sub-County Mawogola County.

He also witnessed in the same church the wedding of Mr. James Kabuganda [who is said to be related to First Lady Janet Museveni] and his bride Jovia Kabuganda.

At a ceremony presided over by Pastor Sserwadda, the President donated 4 cows to the newlywed couple and also gave Shs.10 million to the new church.
