A new group of youth have been arrested in Kawempe, a Kampala suburb for protesting the impending amendment of the presidential age limit clause of the Ugandan constitution.
The group which calls itself “Youth Platform Against Presidential Age Limit” had gathered in Kawempe preparing to march to the Parliament of Uganda and hand in their petition to Speaker Rebecca Kadaga.
They were, however, intercepted by police, arrested and detained at Kawempe Police Station.
There were also running battles between police and youth as many scampered away.
Ronald Atwali, DPC Kawempe, said four of the ringleaders were in police custody and would be charged with holding an unlawful assembly.
The youth say the constitution allows them as Ugandans to fight for their country.
This follows the arrest of three youth in Mbarara who buried Museveni alive and NRM Youth League leader, Robert Rutaro, who also tried to denounce the age limit bill.
