Uganda National Crime Preventers Forum [UNCPF] has pledged to continue doing its work despite attacks and killing of its members in parts of the country.
Led by its National Coordinator, Blaise Kamugisha, the unit considered to be an extension of police, was referring to the murder of its members in Mukono district.
At the start of the week, unknown thugs raided Kyetume police post and killed a crime preventer who at the time remained on guard as colleagues went to get food.
The deceased was David Okong, a resident of Bukasa village in Nakisunga sub-county in Mukono district.
Okong served as a special police constable during elections.
The thugs broke into cells and released the three suspects who were in the custody that evening.
“Okong was a dedicated crime preventer who had sacrificed himself to serve his community by volunteering with the local police whenever need arose,” reads a statement from the Head Communications National Crime Preventers Forum.
NCPF says this was great loss to the crime preventers of Mukono.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace! Our condolences go to the family, friends and the entire crime prevention fraternity.”
The crime preventers said they shall continue with their resolve to see that our communities are safer for all through the neighbourhood watch, community foot patrols and engaging the community to embrace community policing.
The group this week met local leaders including RDC, DISO, LC and police in Mubende to help resolve land conflicts between the community and the Catholic Church in Kitenga Sub County.
