Former presidential candidate, Kizza Besigye, has publically acknowledged that Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, is among the people he respects immensely.
“I respect Hon. Kyagulanyi. He is very perceptive and has stood for the truth since,” Besigye said while appearing on NBS TV “morning breeze” programme on Wednesday morning.
Besigye who did not clarify whether he was at cross-roads on who to support in Kyadondo, said he campaigned for Hon. Apollo Kantinti, the Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] candidate but still had respect for the musician.
Bobi Wine later defeated Kantinti, NRM’s Sitenda Sebalu and independents to win the by-election.
Besigye was among the first people to congratulate Bobi Wine even while the votes were still being tarried.
“We went out to fundraise together in Tooro,” Besigye said today, explaining that anybody that fights to regain the power of the people in the country is on their side.
“Anyone that fights for status quo with the current government is our opponent.”
He added: “Anyone that is not aligned anywhere between the two sides is not conversant with our strategy.”
Before taking oath of office yesterday, Bobi Wine also acknowledged being friends with Besigye, Police Chief Kale Kayihura as well as Museveni’s brother, Gen Salim Saleh.
“I’m friends with Kizza Besigye and all Ugandans,” Bobi said.
