Kenya’s Interior Cabinet secretary, Major Gen. (Rtd.) Joseph Nkaissery, is dead.
A statement released by Kenya State House says Nkaissery died suddenly a few hours after being admitted at the Karen Hospital in Nairobi for a check-up.
Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Joseph Kinyua, says Nkaissery fell unwell and was rushed to the city hospital for check-up only to pass on a few hours later.
“It is with deep sorrow and shock that we announce the sudden passing on of Interior CS General (Rtd.) Joseph Nkaissery,” read the State House statement.
“Gen. Nkaissery passed on at Karen Hospital in Nairobi a few hours after being admitted for a check-up.”
“The country to be updated as more information becomes available.”
Nkaissery was aged 67 at the time of his death.
Fred Matiang’i has been appointed acting Interior CS after the death of Nkaissery.
Fred Okengo Matiang’i is the current Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Kenya.
Matiang’i had served as the Eastern Africa regional representative for the Centre for International Development, Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, the State University of New York before being nominated as the Cabinet Secretary for Information Communication and Technology on 23 April 2013.
On 24 November 2015, President Uhuru Kenyatta, in a cabinet reshuffle, appointed him as the cabinet secretary for Education.
On July 8th 2017, he was named the acting cabinet Secretary of internal Security in Kenya by President Uhuru Kenyatta following a sudden death of Joseph Nikaiseri who died in a Karen Hospital, Nairobi.
