A tragic drama broke out in Mpande village Luweero district on Saturday when Democratic Party members staged a heavy fist fight at the burial of former party president, John Ssebaana Kizito.
According to Uganda Radio Network, the fight was between the supporters of Kampala Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, and DP President Norbert Mao.
The protagonists of the tragic drama were members of DP youth league better known as Uganda Young Democrats (UYD).
The youth who carried placards inscribed on “say no to age limit”, interrupted Mukono south MP, Johnson Muyanja Ssenyonga, who was speaking on behalf of the ruling NRM caucus MPs.
In the scuffle, the youth allied to Mao blocked Lukwago who arrived in the company of Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu from accessing the venue.
Pro-Lukwago youth in retaliation rolled their sleeves up, tightened their fists and let them loose on their opponents, spreading terror and chaos.
Police and other security officials at the event moved in very fast and tore the youth from each other’s necks.
The scuffle lasted for several minutes before police could successfully end it.
