Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has resolved to name Nakivubo Place Road after former mayor John Ssebana Kizito.
In a special sitting of the council Thursday, KCCA said it will name Nakivubo Place Road after Ssebana Kizito to appreciate his achievements during his six-year tenure as Mayor.
The road that runs from Luwum Street to join Nakivubo Road near Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium and St. Balikuddembe Market was chosen in a meeting presided over by the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago at City Hall.
“In a unanimous decision, this special authority meeting sitting here today with the casket of our mentor here before us, we have resolved to name Nakivubo Place after him,” Lukwago is quoted by Daily Monitor as saying.
Deputy Lord Mayor Sarah Kanyike Ssebaggala proposed the motion to honour Ssebaana and was seconded by Lord councillors; Bruhan Mugisha and Conrad Okello
Kanyike said Ssebaana convinced the then KCC councillors to use the balance of money from the Nakivubo Channel Project for the construction of Rubaga Division Council Headquarters.
State Minister for KCCA, Benny Namugwanya Bugembe, said the government gave Ssebaana an official burial because he was statesman who served everybody without discrimination.
Among Ssebaana’s achievements cited at the meeting was the construction of Nakibuko drainage channel, a number of roads and enhanced street lighting.
