Police speaks out on fatal flying squad car accident

Asan Kasingye‏, the police spokesperson has spoken out on the fatal accident in which one officer of the flying squad died on spot while seven others were hospitalised with injuries.

Kasingye explained that the accident involved flying squad officers attached to Mbale police station and not the police chief, Kale Kayihura’s convoy as earlier reported.

“Not IGPs convoy. It was a Flying Squad vehicle attached to Mbale,” Kasingye said.

He confirmed that one officer, detective Gina Michael, died on spot at Towei corner, Sipi in Kawowo sub-county on Kapchorwa-Mbale Highway where the accident happened on Wednesday evening.

“Not true. The vehicle was not part of IGP convoy. It was the Flying squad team, 1 detective died, 7 people rushed to Mbale hospital,” police also reiterated in a tweet.


The private Toyota Hiace car, registration no. UAE 8750 was on Wednesday evening involved in a fatal accident killing one, PC Micheal Gona a driver attached to Police Flying Squad.

Sipi Regional Spokesperson, Rogers Chrispas Taitika, attributed the accident to brake failure.

The others officers involved in the accident are; ASP Holleth Karakya, PC Vincent Chebet, Sgt Kawawa Isisiga, PC Okello and civilians Moses Wambi, Sarah Muzide, Anthony Mbale.
