Uganda Mourns Veteran Politician Ssebaana Kizito

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has directed an official burial for Hon John Ssebaana Kizito in recognition of his significant contribution to Uganda.

Prime Minister, Ruhakana Rugunda, confirmed the president’s directive on Tuesday.

During Tuesday Plenary sitting, Members were informed that Parliament will on Thursday, 6th July 2017 hold a special sitting to pay tribute to the late former Mayor of Kampala, John Ssebaana Kizito, who passed away at Nakasero Hospital Monday, 3rd July 2017.

Deputy Speaker Oulanyah said that Ssebaana had an illustrious career having served in various capacities as a civil servant, Chief Executive Officer of Government parastatals, Legislator at the Buganda Kingdom and Uganda and East Africa.

Parliament observed a minute’s silence in honour of Ssebaana, who was also a Minister in the Government of Uganda, President of the Democratic Party and a prominent businessman and entrepreneur.

“What is noteworthy however, is that he served with distinction and selflessly for Buganda, Uganda and East Africa. His footprints will remain written indelibly in the social, political and economic affairs and annals of Uganda and East Africa,” said Oulanyah.

“As legislators, there is a lot that can be learnt and emulated from him.  I wish to salute Luweero and Buganda for giving us this icon,” he added.
