Makerere Vice Chancellor Search Committee has picked Professor Barnabas Nawangwe as the best candidate for the institution’s top job.
He beat rivals Professors Edward Kirumira and Venansious Baryamureeba who came in second and third positions respectively.
Prof Nawangwe got 77%, Kirumira 70% and lastly Baryamureeba 64%, according to the results contained in a report by University Senate.
The Senate on Tuesday adopted and referred the report with details pertaining the choice of Prof Nawangwe to the University Council which will debate it tomorrow, Wednesday.
The University council has 26 members headed by Dr. Wana Etyem.
Tomorrow, the university chancellor, Dr. Ezra Suruma, will make the final decision.
Nawangwe has been serving as the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance.
He is the former Acting Principal, College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), Makerere University.
