Police has deployed over 2000 police officers and crime preventers ahead of the Kyadondo East Elections scheduled for Thursday.
Kampala Metropolitan Commander, CP. Frank Mwesigwa, pledged a peaceful and calm election.
He advised the candidates and their supporters to follow electoral commission guidelines and desist from last minute errors in order to avoid any inconveniences.
The troops started taking positions on Wednesday evening to secure the Kyadondo East election in Wakiso district.
The officers will be deployed at 94 polling stations in the nine parishes that make up Kyadondo East constituency.
They will also install check points to ensure no one else disorganises the constituency during the voting process.
According to Mwesigwa, police has already arrested 10 people for inciting violence.
Forum for Democratic Change Party Candidate, Apollo Katinti, NRM’s Sitenda Sebalu, Muwada Nkunyingi, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, both FDC leaning independents, Sowedi Kayongo Male and Edward Kasasa, are the candidates competing for the seat.
The seat fell vacant after the Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the High Court nullifying the victory of Kantinti over non-compliance with electoral laws, disfranchising voters and failing to secure custody of election materials.
It was NRM’s Sebalu who petitioned court after losing to Kantinti in the 2016 parliamentary race.
