President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni spent Tuesday in Kyadondo East Constituency, Wakiso District explaining to voters why they should vote for the NRM candidate in the Thursday parliamentary by-election.
“As the ruling party, we have put more emphasis on wealth creation. I would like to thank you for electing me to the presidency even when some votes were wasted,” Museveni said.
He noted that a president can accomplish great works for the country, however, he needs help from regional leaders.
“I cannot be fully aware of the problems faced in a region, problems like water, electricity and roads and it’s against this background that I urge you to elect a candidate that will put the government under pressure to deliver.”
He said the central government headed by himself has a lot of work to do at the macro level.
It is for this reason that we need like-minded people to advocate and push for specific needs and projects for the communities they represent, Museveni explained.
“It is foolhardy and counterproductive to vote somebody whose mantra from the onset is to oppose and frustrate government projects,” he hit at opposition candidate, Apollo Kantinti.
Museveni also listened to the issues of the boda boda and taxi operators of Nabugabo through their leadership at a meeting at Kasangati Resort Hotel.
“At an appropriate time we are going to sit again together with line ministers to get to the bottom of some of the issues raised.”
For example the call for election of leaders, an old pledge of three taxis and the recent ban of the three-wheel motorcycles (tuk-tuk), he observed.
In the meantime the people using these motorcycles can resume operations.
“Voting is not a joking subject and should be handled with utmost seriousness. I therefore urge the people of Kyadondo East to vote NRM’s Sitenda Sebalu on Thursday.”
