Independent candidate in Kyadondo East by-election, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, says this election is good to change a lot of lives.
“This election is not a joke. All these promises and issues I’m raising will not change when I go to Parliament. I will only add English,” Bobi Wine told his supporters in Gayaza Wakiso district.
“If these people were so powerful, why am I here and not behind bars? I didn’t even spend two hours there! I see police officers here, I will not waste my time thanking them.”
He added: “You have done nothing apart from embarrassing your uniform.”
The singer said when President Museveni went to the bush, he organised young people and gave them guns and started killing people.
“I want to promise you that there is no bullet that will be fired.”
The candidate who was earlier arrested at Wampeewo grounds in Kasangati, said he was accused of “trying to cause a presidential embarrassment”.
“I also told them that arresting me was a presidential embarrassment, I’m a president. Today I have realised that the people we fear also fear us a lot. We have a lot of power but we haven’t realised it.”
He concluded that people power is stronger than people in power.
According to activist, Frank Gashumba, Bobi Wine is the only candidate that makes sense right now.
This was proved when his arrest sparked running battles between Police and his supporters in Kasangati.
He was briefly detained at Kira Division Police headquarters in Kira municipality but later released without any charges being preferred against him.
Rowdy supporters blocked roads around Kasangati with logs, benches and stones in protest of Kyagulanyi’s arrest.
Others descended on the police post hurling stones at the police officers at the scene.
Meanwhile, the Uganda Electoral Commission chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama says there are 72,818 registered voters in Kyadondo East Constituency.
The by-election will take place on Thursday and we shall ensure it starts at 7am.
