PJ Powers, Goodlyfe stage Kampala charity show

South African music legend Penelope Jane Dunlop aka PJ Powers is bracing for a concert in Uganda to champion what she called a ‘good cause’.

The Jabulani Charity Concert which will feature Goodlyfe dyanamic duo, Mozwey Radio and Weasel TV, is being organised by Girl Up Initiative Uganda, a community development organisation that empowers young girls to thrive in their communities.

It will be held on Friday, June 30 at Kampala Serena Hotel. Tickets are 100K for regular, 300K for VIP and 5 million for a VIP table.

Famous for songs like “Jabulani”, “There is an Answer”, “World In Union”, PJ Powers collaborated with Radio and Weasel and produced “Home to Africa” to champion for the plight of the continent’s needy.

“Home To Africa. This is History in the making, with the Legendary PJ Powers and Radio & Weasel on the same beat. Just imagine the outcome- #Legendary,” the dynamic duo of Radio & Weasel posted on their Facebook page in April.

Home to Africa celebrates Africa through a rich African sound, with a dominatingly Kwaito fusions that will surely getting you singing and dancing in your favourite bar, nightclub or at home.

“I am going home to Africa, to feel the love in Africa,” goes the opening line of the song.

The music video is directed by Nate Thomas from Uprooted Media.

The video was shot at Sezibwa Falls, along the Kampala-Jinja road and in Namuwongo, a Kampala suburb. Singers PJ Powers, Radio & Weasel wrote their bits.

“I first came to Uganda about 14 years ago. The most excitement I have ever experienced on tour in Africa is when I come to Uganda. So, it was really easy for me to choose coming here again,” she told press back in April this year.

Even after losing her mother last week, PJ Powers maintained she would still appear for the Kampala concert.

“Thank you for all the condolences and wishes that have been sent to me and all the love that I have received from Uganda with regards to the passing of my mother. I just want to rest assure everybody that the Jabulani Charity Concert at the Kampala Serena Hotel will most definitely take place. If my mother left me with one legacy, it was the legacy to never let people down. Therefore, I will be there to sing a song in her honour and party together with you. Thank you,” she said.
