Democratic Party (DP) has pulled its candidate, Lilian Babirye Kamome, out of the Kyadondo East Constituency by-elections.
The development was announced Tuesday by party president, Norbert Mao, after consulting with Babirye.
The move, according to Mao, would ensure that opposition makes a united stand if it is to have any chances in winning the by-election.
As such, Babirye gave way to Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] candidate, Apollo Kantinti, who faces off with singer Robert Kyagulanyi and the ruling party NRM candidate, William Sitenda, among others.
Addressing press in Kampala, Mao said when opposition fights within itself, the ruling party greatly benefits from such divisions.
He said Babirye was also in agreement of this fact and had resolved to support FDC’s Kantinti so opposition can secure a victory.
