Six people are reported to have drowned in Lake Victoria after a boat they were travelling in capsized.
All said to be members of the same family, the group was travelling from Kasekulo Landing site in Mugoye Sub County to Kamese Landing site on Buwuvu Island in Bufumira Sub County, Kalangala District.
Kalangala District Police Commander, Richard Musisi, told Daily Monitor the boat was overloaded with poles from a forest on Kasekulo Landing site.
Musisi identified Charles Bwete, Charles Ssemugera, Ssenabulya, Kaye and Buliita, all residents of Kamese Landing site in Bufumira Sub County, as some of those who lost their lives.
Only one person, according to police, survived the Sunday evening incident.
In March this year, five people drowned when their boat capsized in Lake Victoria, Budalang’i Constituency.
Seventeen other people, who were aboard the vessel, were also rescued.
