Ugandan musician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has been nominated to run in the Kyadondo East parliamentary by-election.
Bobi was nominated as an Independent Candidate for Member of Parliament for Kyadondo East Constituency Wednesday 31st May 2017 at Kasangati Saza grounds.
The singer was escorted by dozens of his fans cheering his new title “honourable”, his wife Barbie Kyagulanyi and singer Ronald Mayinja, among others.
Speaking on the event, Bobi said he now officially started his journey to parliament.
Mayinja told fans that it’s time for a change and believes Bobi is the right choice for Kyadondo East.
“We need change. It has started today. Bobi Wine is on his political journey,” the elevated Mayinja told fans.
On Tuesday, Forum for Democratic Change [FDC] top leadership approached Bobi to lobby for their candidate Apollo Kantinti who also faces the ruling National Resistance Movement [NRM] candidate, Sitenda Sebalu.
Sebalu who lost the 2016 Kyadondo East Constituency polls by only 14 votes is now optimistic of winning the seat in the June 26 by-election with a big margin.
Kantinti is sure of retaining the seat, or so it seemed, until today when FDC made it clear that the musician’s involvement could cost them the seat.
Bobi Wine suggested that FDC withdraws its candidate Hon. Apollo Kantinti in favour of his candidature so that “we can win with an even bigger margin than we are already doing”.
According to the singer, the people of Kyadondo East have identified with the cause- they have embraced it with both hands; the elderly and the young, men and women, people from all religions and political shades.
This comes at a time Muwadda Nkunyingi, a voter in Kyadondo East, dragged the Electoral Commission, Boib and IGP Gen Kale Kayihura to court for mishandling the ongoing voters register data update exercise.
