UNRA pulls down Rukutana’s luxury hotel

Part of the hotel was in a road reserve

Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has upped its eviction activities along Entebbe road to clear the area and protect road reserves.

On Wednesday, UNRA officials brought down a multi-billion hotel that reportedly belongs to Deputy Attorney General, Hon Mwesigwa Rukutana.

“This is the level of voluntary compliance we have been encouraging for all persons whose structures are in the road reserves,” a UNRA official said, referring to the easiness with which Rukutana cooperated.

“This is Millennium Hotel, Zzana, Entebbe road, part of the hotel; its extension is in the road reserve,” the official said.

It is also reported that Rukutana was well compensated [paid about Shs10bn] to relocate the hotel.

This came after UNRA pulled down Nyondo bar in Najjanankumbi along Entebbe road for being built in a road reserve.

UNRA says it is determined this time round to ensure no structure built in the road reserve remains standing.
