Burundi police has discovered a racket of traffickers who sell the country’s young girls to Arab countries as slaves, prostitutes and house workers.
The alarm was raised by Police of the air, borders and foreigners (Pafe).
Pafe Commissioner, Jimmy Hatungimana, told SOS Médias Burundi the girls are transited through South Africa by these traffickers.
“The young girls who leave for these Arab countries don’t return,” Hatungimana said.
Hatungimana explained that these girls have changed their itinerary.
They transit now by South Africa.
He made the revelation during the launch of a training course at the place of the officers of the service of migration, organised by the international organisation of migration as well as the embassy of Belgium in Bujumbura.
Many girls across the African continent are being sold either legally by their countries [like Uganda] or trafficked to slave for Arabs in the Middle East.
