The Speaker of Parliament has rallied political, religious and community leaders to join the campaign to save millions of vulnerable, orphaned and abandoned children spread across the country.
Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga while officiating at celebrations organized by child care givers Compassion International in Kakira 18th May 2017, noted the need to give hope to children whose families cannot meet their basic needs.
“The needs of our children are so big. The numbers have increased as a result of armed conflicts, being orphaned by HIV while others are internally displaced. We need to provide for them in the communities where they live,” she said.
The Speaker hailed Compassion International for its support to over 100,000 children in 352 churches in Uganda.
“Compassion has played its role. We appeal to them to open up more centers. But we must also join the campaign and give back to the community to support our vulnerable children,” Speaker Kadaga added.
She also rallied the public to embrace regular participation in sports as one of the means to live a healthy life.
