Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has started a crackdown on vehicles with fake registration and unrenewed foreign number plates.
An enforcement operation targeting cars with fake registration plates and unrenewed foreign plates road licences in Kampala yielded results.
The enforcement team working jointly with traffic police of Jinja road, Bombo road, Kiira road and Kira-Namugongo traversed the city fishing out the cars one by one operating on Intel gathered over time.
By Thursday May 11, 2017, the enforcement team had impounded 46 cars.
These include; high power models of brands like Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Range rover, Toyota Prado to mention but a few.
Forty-three  of these vehicles’ owners have already complied with tax and paid their dues (both taxes and penalties), according to URA.
According to the statement by the tax body, Shs 270,200,942/- is the amount of taxes recovered by this operation of the enforcement team thus far.
“We encourage Ugandans to embrace tax compliance to avoid inconveniences,” the authority said.
