Police confesses torturing Kamwenge mayor

Police has confessed having manhandled the mayor of Kamwenge town council, Geoffrey Byamukama, who has for some time now been admitted at Nakasero hospital.

In a press release Friday, the police spokesman, Asan Kasingye, revealed that Byamukama was arrested from the Ministry of Lands office along Parliament Avenue on April 5, 2017.

He is suspected to had taken part in the brutal assassination of former police chief, AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi, his body guard Kenneth Erau and driver Geoffrey Mambewa.

Media reports later showed Byamukama lying ill in Nakasero hospital having allegedly been tortured and later dumped at Nalufenya special operation unit in Jinja district.

In a statement released this morning, Kasingye revealed that two police officers identified as Fred Tumuhiirwe and Ronnie Byenkya, tortured Byamukama.

He said the officers who inflicted injuries on Byamukama have been arrested and are currently under investigation at Professional Standards Unit (PSU) in Kireka.

He further noted that Byamukama had received good medical attention.
